Tagging” is an important tool for getting your jewelry found on the Internet.

A tag is a keyword assigned to a piece of content. It’s a relevant word or phrase that describes and classifies the item so it can be easily found later.

Almost any form of online content can have tags assigned to it – a web page, a blog post, a photo, a video, bookmarked content, etc.

Good tags will help your jewelry get found by people who are searching for what you have to offer!

Unfortunately, many people rush through tagging, quickly slapping just one or two weak tags onto their content – thereby throwing away a golden opportunity for traffic and links.

Don’t make that mistake with your tags.

Taking the time to thoroughly tag your jewelry photos, articles, blog posts, etc. is worth far more than the minute it takes you to do it!

You’ll get better results from your tags if you include keywords your customers are most likely to use for your content and your jewelry.

Try these tagging strategies:

*When you tag your own items, try to use both general words and specific words that will help your stuff get found often. Take the time to add as many tags as you can think of that are relevant to the item.

*If the site where you’re tagging your jewelry has a “popular tags” tag-cloud, use as many relevant popular tags from it as possible.

*Use multiple forms of each tag word (for example: bead, beads, beaded, beading) to create more opportunities for your content to be found.

*Use misspellings. Many people know what they want, but don’t know how to spell it when they’re searching for it. Including misspelled tags is an easy way to pick up extra traffic from these folks.

*Don’t use tags that aren’t relevant to your content.

*Don’t feel like you have to limit yourself to using just a few tags. It’s okay to use as many as a dozen of them when tagging your jewelry photos or content.

Think of your tags as breadcrumb trails leading customers to your jewelry!
